Chief Steven Powers has relentlessly served the Clintwood Fire Department since 2000, bringing over two decades of leadership, dedication, and professionalism to the department. In addition to his fire service, Steven serves as the Director of 911 and Communications for the Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office, where he continues to be a driving force in emergency services for the region.
Chief Powers is deeply committed to comprehensive training and development, with expertise spanning fire attack, technical rescue, administration, and beyond. He leads with purpose and principle, always holding the department’s membership to a high standard of service—without hubris or ego.
When he's off duty, Steven finds enjoyment in the great outdoors, spending his time hiking, fishing, and indulging in his love for all forms of motorsports.
With over 25 years of dedicated service to the Clintwood Fire Department, Assistant Chief Jarrod Salyer exemplifies what it means to be a leader in public safety. Since joining in 2000, Jarrod has been a driving force behind our department’s training, response readiness, and professional development.
A retired Captain with the Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office and currently serving with the Virginia Department of Corrections as a Special Agent, Jarrod brings unmatched experience and commitment to every role he fills. His deep knowledge in fire attack training, along with his well-rounded skills in technical rescue and administrative operations, make him an essential asset to our team.
Off-duty, Jarrod is known for his love of the Cincinnati Reds and his appreciation as a true cigar aficionado—a combination of loyalty and taste that reflects his personality both on and off the job.
Assistant Chief Phillip Jones has been a cornerstone of the Clintwood Fire Department since the establishment of Station 2 in 1990. With over three decades of unwavering service, Phil has proven himself to be a strong and dependable fire service leader, especially known for his passion for technical rescue operations.
His leadership has been instrumental in the ongoing success and growth of Station 2, where his knowledge, steady presence, and commitment to excellence have made a lasting impact on the department and community alike.
A retired ASC Certified Master Mechanic, Phil brings a unique technical skill set to the team and is known for his precision, problem-solving, and mechanical expertise. When he's not serving the department, Phil enjoys motorcycle riding and is an enthusiast of all things firearms.
